In the previous blog we investigated the issues arising from expressing a desire to have a religious tattoo. Hopefully we were able to enlighten this issue with some alternative points of view and although we only touched on this subject very briefly, perhaps you are now feeling a little more certain in terms of making the right decision.

We’ll say it again, getting a tattoo is not like buying an a paper. A Religious tattoo in the form of an angel, cross or the holy spirit will live with you and will be a part of you for always.

Don’t make this decision lightly

This post contains more Religious tattoos. We have focused on the varying types of cross tattoos in this post as the cross plays a very big part in most religions and is one of the most popular form of religious tattoos there is.

Religious Tattoos

Well no doubt for anyone who is religious, knowing whether to get a Religious Tattoo conjures up a whole host of emotional issues both on a personal level and on a spiritual level.Tattoos, religious or not are no small feat and the decision to have a tattoo should always be made with very careful consideration. Once completed the tattoo will be a part of your body for life and like the clothes we wear, a tattoo ultimately makes a statement about the person that we are.

Its always important to investigate the motives for wanting a tattoo and if the main reasoning behind this decision is inspired by our religion, then we have to understand the ethics and code practiced by that religion before we can make a final decision.

This is where the debate for and against can become personal as readings taken from the bible can be interpreted to suit the argument for a religious tattoo and the argument against a religious tattoo.

Take the following verse from Leviticus 19:28

You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh on account of the dead or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the LORD.”

For the extremist this statement would read black and white. The Lord is instructing us as followers not to have your body tattooed under any circumstances. Yet under further investigation we realize that the Lord is warning the Jewish people against a pagan practice that occurs at funerals.

In ritualistic fashion, the pagans would mutilate their flesh with cuts and tattoos in an attempt to appease their false gods.

Can you see the slant that can be given to this quotation if I was for or against the practice of Tattoos? In terms of persuasive reasoning there is likely to be a mass of well intended opinions accumulated through friends, parents and social peers. Yet it doesn’t matter whether the status quo sways for or against the decision to get a religious tattoo, the final decision still remains firmly with you. Whatever your final decision it is a very interesting debate.

Let me know what your thoughts are. Maybe you already have a religious tattoo and like other people you had to take an emotive journey before making your final decision.

At the bottom of this blog I have included pictures of religious tattoos more for inspiration than anything else. You will also find links to some great online clubs for Tattoo design.
